About Us

Yuka and I got married about thirteen years ago. We had a long distance relationship with Yuka living in Japan while I was living in San Francisco. After more than two and a half years of emails and "instant chats" we finally got married. Yuka came to live with me in SF. At that time we had no idea at all that we would one day be living in Japan!

David and YukaWe began our international student ministry in Tucson Arizona while attending the Japanese Christian Community of Tucson. It was more than a lot of fun; that was where we found our calling! God kept drawing us deeper and deeper into ministry and before we knew it He had us securely in His grasp. We began to suspect, even back then, that we would eventually move to Japan.

about three years later were accepted into the Japanese Evangelical Missionary Society. We had moved back to San Francisco and we were deeply involved in an international student outreach to Japanese students. Then things in Japan suddenly changed. In March of 2011 an earthquake and devastating tsunami struck Japan. The Fukushima Daichi nuculear plant was severely damaged and for fear of safety, mission agencies began pulling missionaries out of Japan. Our hearts burned with an eagerness to go and in September of 2011 the door finally opened and we came to Japan.

I have gone to the north of Japan on some short-term ministry teams but our primary ministry continues to be with university students. You can see more about that in the Japan Ministry section of this web site. We are currently ministering at Jlodge, a coffee shop ministry to university students at Tokai University.

The fellowship we have started at Jlodge is a very simple expression of the Body of Christ and our goal is to disciple people from wherever they are in their spiritual journey into a mature, loving faith in Jesus.

Our Vision is:

To see multiple networks of simple, reproducing gatherings of followers of Jesus growing in faith and spreading throughout Japan, transforming the nation from the Land of the Rising Sun into The Land of the Risen Son
